About the initiative

The Sustainability Reporting Competency Framework (SRCF) — from London Reporting Academy, the global centre of reporting practice. A practitioner-led framework, free to read, teach and use internally under a public licence, developed through employer evidence, technical review and transparent change control.

In brief
What it is

SRCF sets out what a sustainability reporting professional must know and be able to do — in one place, in one shared vocabulary: nine domains of practice, 81 competency units, six role profiles and three calibrated proficiency levels.

What it is not

Not a disclosure standard. Not a certification scheme. Not an accreditation. Not an assurance service. Not a curriculum. SRCF certifies no one: no person, course, product or institution is SRCF-certified, accredited, approved or aligned — no such status exists yet, from anyone. The framework is published as versioned working material and improved through structured, on-the-record review.

Who it is for

Practitioners and students, employers and reporting teams, universities and training providers — and the technical reviewers and professional bodies who challenge it. Get involved →

Who owns it · who decides

London Reporting Academy Limited is the owner, publisher, licensor and Secretariat. Technical content and releases are reserved to the SRCF Technical Council, an internal governance committee constituted under the Governance and Due Process Charter (v1.1); assessment and credentials sit with a separate board. What it costs

Free to read, to use inside your own organisation, and for academic institutions to reference, independently map and teach under the SRCF Public Reference and Adoption Licence — fee-charging programmes included. Attribution is required. Official or SRCF-branded delivery, substantial reproduction, productisation and any status claim are licensed separately. Use and licensing →

Why it exists

Sustainability reporting has become an evidence-ready discipline that sits across standards, data systems, internal controls, assurance preparation, finance, legal review and technology. The market has many courses that teach individual standards; it has far fewer instruments that show whether a practitioner can implement them in practice. SRCF defines the job itself — as tasks, outputs, evidence and observable proficiency. It is being calibrated in working sessions with leading global corporates. A first full technical review pass over the register is complete — run in-house, not by independent reviewers; independent challenge is the next gate.

Host and governance

London Reporting Academy hosts and administers the initiative and provides the Secretariat, publishing and technology infrastructure. Technical oversight and major decisions sit with a compact Technical Council; independent reviewers provide external challenge. See Governance for decision rights and change control.
