I.2Design and control automated reporting workflows
Working Draft version 1.1
Purpose and scope
This unit covers the capability to identify suitable repeatable reporting tasks, design and implement automation and maintain human approval, exceptions, controls, evidence, testing, monitoring and rollback. It includes data transfers, calculations, validation, reminders, routing, status changes, document generation and other rule-based or AI-assisted workflow steps.
Applied competency statement
Can design, implement and monitor controlled reporting automation that preserves approved rules, human decision rights, exceptions, evidence, change control and recoverability.
Boundary and escalation
This unit owns automation suitability, automated and human workflow design, exception visibility, testing, monitoring and rollback. D.4 owns the underlying request and review workflow, E.10 owns application and interface controls and I.9 owns enterprise governance. It does not provide software engineering, cyber-security, IT audit or model-validation qualification.
Key quality risks
Automating an unstable or poorly defined process; hidden assumptions in scripts or workflows; incomplete population processed; failed records not visible; automated status interpreted as approved quality; approval bypassed; exception thresholds too broad; manual workaround not recorded; output propagated before review; untested rule or model change; inadequate logging; automation bias; no rollback; and efficiency claims that ignore rework, control and incident cost.
