B.5Apply nature, water, pollution, waste, resource-use and circularity reporting literacy
Working Draft version 1.1
Purpose and scope
This unit covers the capability to apply sufficient reporting literacy across nature, biodiversity, ecosystems, water, pollution, resource use, materials, waste and circularity to identify relevant locations, value-chain relationships, data, methodologies and specialist questions. It emphasises location specificity, impact and dependency relationships, the distinction between pressures, condition and responses, and the limitations of aggregate or proxy indicators.
Applied competency statement
Can apply sufficient nature, pollution, resource-use and circularity reporting literacy to identify relevant locations, impacts, dependencies, data and methodological questions, challenge specialist evidence and communicate information and limitations accurately.
Boundary and escalation
This unit does not qualify the practitioner to perform ecological assessment, life-cycle assessment, water modelling, pollution measurement, toxicology, engineering, circular-design analysis, biodiversity valuation or legal compliance assessment. Qualified scientific, technical, legal or local specialists are required for such conclusions.
Key quality risks
Treating nature like a single global carbon metric; ignoring location, ecological condition or value-chain context; conflating pressures, state, impacts, dependencies and responses; using expenditure, certification or proxy data as proof of outcome; double counting materials, waste, pollution and circularity information; and making unsupported nature-positive, zero-pollution or circularity claims.
