B.8Integrate cross-topic analysis and specialist input
Working Draft version 1.1
Purpose and scope
This unit covers the capability to define, commission, review and integrate specialist input and to analyse cross-topic relationships, trade-offs, co-benefits and unintended consequences across sustainability reporting work. It establishes clear questions, deliverables, evidence, assumptions, limitations, review and ownership while ensuring that reporting practitioners do not outsource or overstate professional judgement.
Applied competency statement
Can scope, review and integrate specialist evidence and cross-topic relationships into sustainability reporting, including assumptions, limitations, trade-offs, co-benefits and unintended consequences, while preserving clear ownership and professional boundaries.
Boundary and escalation
This unit owns cross-topic synthesis and the integration of specialist evidence into reporting. D.7 governs provider selection, scope and deliverable acceptance; F.3 evaluates general reporting-evidence quality and sufficiency; H.1 and H.3 govern competence limits and professional judgement. The practitioner must not validate a specialist conclusion beyond competence, override a qualified specialist without a defensible basis or transfer management accountability to an adviser.
Key quality risks
Commissioning work without a clear reporting question or acceptance criteria; uncritical reliance on specialist authority; cherry-picking favourable conclusions; omitting assumptions or limitations; unresolved contradictions between specialists; double counting or inconsistent boundaries across topics; scope creep; conflicts of interest; and allowing external specialists to assume management or reporting ownership.
