G.4Connect sustainability matters to financial planning and reporting
Working Draft version 1.1
Purpose and scope
This unit covers the capability to identify, analyse and explain connections between material sustainability matters, risks, opportunities, actions, metrics and targets and the organisation's financial planning, budgets, capital allocation, financial position, performance, cash flows, access to finance, cost of capital and financial reporting. It includes current and anticipated effects, reconciliation of assumptions and periods and transparent treatment of uncertainty, ranges and unquantified effects.
Applied competency statement
Can connect sustainability matters and reporting information to financial planning and reporting through supported transmission pathways, reconciled assumptions and balanced disclosure of current and anticipated financial effects.
Boundary and escalation
This unit develops reporting connectivity and does not determine accounting recognition or measurement, valuation, forecasts, creditworthiness, investment recommendations or financial-statement materiality. C.6 owns financial materiality; finance, accounting, treasury, actuarial, valuation, legal and other qualified owners remain responsible for specialist conclusions.
Key quality risks
Generic claims that sustainability affects enterprise value without a supported pathway; impact information automatically converted into financial effect; current and anticipated effects mixed; financial-statement and sustainability reporting periods or perimeters not reconciled; quantitative effects disclosed without finance-owner approval; different assumptions in scenario, planning and public disclosures; only positive opportunities quantified; double counting across risks and financial line items; absence of quantification treated as absence of effect; and disclosures implying accounting, valuation or investment conclusions not made by qualified owners.
