B.4Apply climate and greenhouse-gas reporting literacy
Working Draft version 1.1
Purpose and scope
This unit covers the capability to apply sufficient climate and greenhouse-gas reporting literacy to understand and challenge the concepts, data, methodologies and specialist evidence used in climate-related reporting. It includes physical and transition matters, greenhouse-gas inventories, scenarios, resilience, transition plans, targets and carbon-credit or offset claims. It does not establish climate-science, engineering, emissions-verification or financial-modelling expertise.
Applied competency statement
Can apply sufficient climate and greenhouse-gas reporting literacy to identify relevant data and methodological questions, test internal consistency and specialist evidence, and communicate climate-related information and limitations accurately.
Boundary and escalation
This unit does not qualify the practitioner to perform climate science, engineering, emissions verification, scenario modelling, transition-plan design, carbon-credit validation, actuarial analysis or financial valuation. Those activities require appropriately qualified specialists, while the reporting practitioner remains responsible for accurate integration and transparent limitations.
Key quality risks
Treating scenarios as forecasts; confusing greenhouse-gas scopes, categories and organisational boundaries; omitting material value-chain sources without explanation; using inconsistent units, factors, base years or target boundaries; double counting reductions or credits; overstating net-zero, resilience or transition claims; and accepting specialist output without review.
