D.6Coordinate cross-functional contributors and resolve dependencies
Working Draft version 1.1
Purpose and scope
This unit covers the capability to coordinate sustainability, finance, risk, legal, HR, procurement, operations, IT, communications, investor relations, governance and other contributors through clear forums, agendas, decisions, actions, dependencies and escalation. It requires translating reporting needs for different functions, resolving routine conflicts and preserving technical ownership, accountability and review responsibilities.
Applied competency statement
Can coordinate cross-functional contributors, maintain decision-useful forums and action records and resolve or escalate dependencies, conflicts and competing priorities without diluting technical accountability.
Boundary and escalation
This unit owns operating coordination, commitments and dependency management. H.7 owns technical communication capability and H.8 owns facilitation, negotiation and responsible resolution; C.2 owns formal roles and decision rights. Coordination does not permit the practitioner to decide specialist matters outside competence or substitute consensus for required evidence and approval.
Key quality risks
Meetings without clear decisions or actions; reporting teams doing work that belongs to accountable functions; repeated requests caused by poor coordination; unresolved differences in definitions, boundaries or claims; dominant functions overriding evidence; decisions lost in email; action owners without capacity; failure to involve finance, legal or operations early; consensus used to weaken technical requirements; and escalation framed as personal conflict rather than reporting risk.
